This thesis examines the influence of the revolutionary press in the French Revolution of 1789 on the legacy and theories of the great philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau. The developing newspaper press used its growing power to both intentionally and unintentionally morph the vague and abstract ideas of Rousseau to fit their cause, thereby confusing the true legacy of Rousseau.
