Abstract

Pulsars are ultra-dense, city-sized stellar remnants born from the explosive deaths of massive stars. Observations of pulsars at allow us to test our theories of fundamental physics in some of the most extreme environments in the Universe. This thesis describes studies of both individual and populations of pulsars observed with the Molonglo and Parkes radio telescopes in Australia, and the MeerKAT array in South Africa. Modern statistical techniques were used to identify irregularities in the spins of large pulsar samples, map the magnetic-field geometry of a highly magnetised pulsar, and probe the eclipses detected in a unique “double pulsar” system.
