The aim of this study was to assess the relationships between pro-environmental behaviors, personality traits and vegetarianism among young adults. Participants in this research were 113 respondents between 18 and 29 years of age (nwomen = 86, nmen = 27). The prevalence of self-defined vegetarians in this study was 53%. The General Ecological Behavior Scale (GEB-50; Kaiser & Wilson, 2004) was used to measure pro-environmental behavior and the Big Five Inventory (BFI; John, Naumann & Soto, 2008) was used to assess personality traits. Correlations between pro-environmental behavior and personality traits were measured and vegetarians and non-vegetarians were compared by personality traits and ecological behavior. The results showed that agreeableness and conscienciousness were positively correlated with recycling behavior. Extraversion showed negative correlation with sustainable transportation modes. Omnivores and vegetarians did not differ in personality traits, but vegetarians were seen as more pro-environmental: vegetarians generally reported more sustainable transportation behaviors, higher rates of recycling, and environmental activism.
